The Opera 3 SQL migration had killed IDSL’s original stock-take module. The workaround was manual. “We had several people on the shop floor that was writing the information down on pieces of paper, then having to go back into the offices to then import that data onto the Pegasus system.” Around three million pounds of stock value sitting on the shop floor, tracked through a paper-to-Pegasus round trip. Errors compounded into finance reports weeks later.
Urban’s development team built an Android application that talks straight into the backend SQL of the Opera 3 Pegasus system. Job costings and stock reductions post in real time. The shop floor reads off the device. The office sees the same data the moment it’s recorded. “The stress, the anguish that we used to have from the errors, the reporting and everything else like that, it went away.”
Four to five days a month back across procurement since the bespoke stock app went live. Real-time SQL replaced the paper-to-Pegasus round trip.
“The time saved from me and my team is roughly about 20%. It equates to about two or three hours a day that's actually saving us”
